LAUREL PODLICH
RESUME
THESIS RESEARCH PROJECT
Throughout my undergraduate education I continued to take literature courses and received a minor degree in English Literature. For my thesis, I chose to explore the connection between architecture and literature. I researched the imagination, space, place, and the creation of literary worlds. I used Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy as my literary world and explored the spaces and places within the novels and how they influence the characters and story. During the project portion of my thesis I generated a series of video presentations showing my exploration and analysis of the creation of space through literature. For the videos I used quotes from the trilogy about five places. The quotes come from different characters in different times of the story. This piece by piece accumulation of auditory and visual information builds to form a complete sense of the places.
DESIGN STUDIO - FORT PECK BUFFALO CONNECTION
Worked as part of a four person team to design and develop a buffalo honoring site for the Sioux and Assiniboine tribes of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. Participated in community meetings with tribal elders and design reviews with various community groups. Generated presentation material for construction fund raising. I developed a comprehensive project book for use of the tribes as well as for future student groups working on the project.
